Spa Etiquette

Never been to a spa? Not sure of tipping procedures or what to expect? Here are some common questions and answers that might help. If you don’t see your question here, call us at 453-1510.

What do I need to do the first time I visit La Bella Spa?
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled reservation. Many of our services require orientation and consultation. We will also ask you to supply basic information about medical history, allergies and contact information. Our friendly staff will welcome you and escort you throughout your first visit.

How Early Should I Make My next Reservation?
Spa treatments are popular and our calendar fills up fast. If you have a specific need for a specific date, please schedule your reservation well in advance. We will always try to accommodate your last minute needs, but encourage pre-scheduling. You may also request a courtesy call should a desired day and time come available.

Are both male and female therapists available?
Yes. Please inform us of any gender preference upon scheduling. We will try to accommodate your preferences, based on availability of therapists.

What if I am running late?
Please note that your late arrival will determine the length of your treatment. Your service will end on time so that the next guest is not delayed. If you are more than 15 minutes late, you may need to reschedule.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?
If you need to cancel your appointment, please call at least 48 hours in advance. We ask that you let us know 72 hours prior to a scheduled spa package or a group appointment.

What should I bring?
Dress comfortably and leave your valuables at home. If you are getting a water treatment, we recommend bringing a 2-piece bathing suit or an additional set of undergarments to get wet in. We invite you to bring your shopping list too! Our Spa Store offers the best skin, body, hair, and cosmetic care as well as great gifts!

What do I do first?
Please sign our guest registry located in our Lobby Atrium Welcome Desk. If you are experiencing multiple services or wet treatments, you will be escorted to our Tranquility Room.

How much privacy can I expect? Do I disrobe completely for my spa treatment?
Your treatments are always delivered in a private room with you and your personal spa professional. We want you to feel relaxed and at ease, as undergarments are required during treatments. Our spa professionals take great care in insuring your privacy. Your therapist will keep your body draped for dry services and only uncover the area to be worked upon. Disposable undergarments are available on request. During wet services such as body scrubs and body wraps, you will not be draped in order to reap maximum benefits.

Is there anything I should or shouldn’t do before coming to The Spa?
Try not to eat for at least an hour before a treatment, and drink plenty of water before and afterward, especially if heat therapy is part of your spa experience. Light Refreshments are provided for guests experiencing multiple services.

Should I tell someone if I have any special physical conditions or allergies?
Yes, please inform us when scheduling your reservation if you have any special needs. We will be happy to accommodate you in any way we can so you will have a pleasant experience. If you are pregnant, have a heart condition, or have high blood pressure, services that include application of heat are not recommended. Please consult your physician first. We also ask that you tell your esthetician if you are wearing contact lenses when you have an appointment for a facial.

May I ask my therapist to make adjustments for my comfort?
Absolutely. This is your treatment, and we want you to enjoy the experience. If you would like the room temperature adjusted, the music volume raised or lowered, or a change in the amount of pressure during your massage, for example, please let your therapist know. Your comfort and care is of the greatest concern and priority.

Do I have to talk or do anything in particular during a treatment?
There's no pressure to talk during a treatment as we prefer you take full advantage of your spa escape. We recommend consulting with your therapists just before your treatment begins so you can close your eyes and truly gain the spa experience!

How can I pay for services?
We accept the following forms of payment: gift cards, cash, local check (with photo ID), Visa, MasterCard and American Express credit cards, and bank debit cards. All payment is expected at the time of service.

Is it customary to tip for spa services? And if so, how much?
Gratuities are welcome not just as the obvious monetary reward, but also because tips show gratitude for the therapist’s hard work. While tipping is certainly not required, it is appreciated and shows a direct reflection of your view of the service you received. The customary gratuity for spa services is 15% to 20% of the cost of the service. Please inform your Guest Service Coordinator upon checking out, if you would like to include gratuities in a credit card or local check payment. Envelopes for cash gratuities are also available.

Are certain services just for men, or women?
Most spa treatments are appropriate for either sex, but certain services do appeal to men or women. We also have services for couples.

At what age is it appropriate for teenage children to start having massages and beauty treatments?
A child is never too young to learn good grooming and healthy habits. Some of our salon services, such as a manicure or a pedicure, could be a fun introduction. We do need to respect those clients who want to have their spa experience in a child-free environment and we must insist that children always be supervised during spa treatments and activities. More and more teens enjoying La Bella Spa's treatments, as several services offer solutions to specific teen concerns, such as acne; makeup, the latest hair trends; pedicures with friends, and the value of massage for sports injuries.

How often should I have a massage?
Massage therapy increases circulation, thus is nourishing to the entire body. Massage also promotes the release of by-products such as lactic acid, which is one of the causes of stiff and sore muscles. We recommend one weekly massage for health maintenance and to counteract the effects of daily stress.

How often should I have a facial?
We recommend regular, monthly facials for optimum skin maintenance and nourishment; twice monthly for specific treatment programs and to counteract the effects of daily stress.

What are The Spa's hours of operation?

Everyone will find spa services to be a welcoming haven no matter what his or her age, shape or size. In fact, the average age of our guests ranges from the 30s to the 50s, and higher.

Aren’t the services expensive?
That depends on your perspective. Many of our treatments are preventative or soothing in nature, and offer benefits to improve your health and well being. Many treatments are priced under $75, as every service is value priced. The investment in your health, spirit and well being is priceless!
